Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters on Monday that there currently is "not enough information" to make a decision on placing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on injured reserve.
"That's going to be driven by medical experts," McDaniel said. "Not quite ready to make a distinction on that. … We'll see in the next couple of days."
The Dolphins QB suffered a concussion in last Thursday night's loss to the Buffalo Bills, and McDaniel said the following day that he had "zero idea" on what any timeline for a return could be, instead focusing on Tagovailoa's health.
McDaniel said on Monday that Tagovailoa was at the team's facility that morning and that he was "doing well today."
"He was feeling good. But what does that mean in terms of a medical diagnosis?" McDaniel told reporters. "I don't base my judgments on my interactions with him necessarily as much as hearing the end results of the medical examination, and where he's at. It was good to see him. I know he teammates were pumped to see him."
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday that Tagovailoa currently has no plans to retire and that he has already begun the process of seeing concussion specialists.
McDaniel declined to speculate on how Tagovailoa's latest concussion (his third diagnosed since the start of the 2022 season) could impact any decision on his career.
"I think it's utmost priority of mine for Tua to speak to his career," McDaniel said. "I think reports are reports. I think as far as I'm concerned I'm just worried about the human being. I think I'll let Tua be the champion of his own career and speak on that."
The Dolphins added depth to their QB room on Monday with Tagovailoa's status unclear, signing veteran Tyler Huntley off the Ravens' practice squad.
